Product Overview

The Native Marks on Native Lands (Indiana) map is an ambitious new work from Muncie Map Co.  The map, created originally for a massive set of installations at Ball State University's Housing and Residence Life, first displays a visualization of indigenous territories created by native-lands.ca, a database created and maintained by indigenous people -- that's the color you see.  That color is laid over a modern hillshade, which visually represents the terrain that the people owned. Cut out from the indigenous land coloration is a version of a 1937 map entitled "Indiana: The influence of the Indian upon its history."  Though this resource is complete, it wasn't created by indigenous people and it is significantly dated. This is an intentional direct contrast to the territories shown by coloration.

The map is printed on a solid 38lb coated bond paper -- a very standard matte-finish map paper similar to what is used by the USGS.  It measures 24"W x 36"H and is suitable for professional framing, fits nicely into standard poster frames, or also works fantastic just tacking onto a bulletin board.
