L.S. Ayres & Co. Department Store
From its flagship store at the corner of Washington and Meridian in downtown Indianapolis, L.S. Ayres & Co. had a midwestern department store empire, boasting outlets in every major city and mall in the state of Indiana and more, and even had subsidieary discount stores like Ayr-Way. As the retail and mall crunch of the 2000s-2010s hit Indiana, Ayres was eventually bought out by Macy's and ceased to exist. The Macy's remained in the Muncie Mall until 2018, when it closed; later, to be replaced by Buyers' Market.
