Mr. Steak Restaurant

Mr. Steak Restaurant

Mr. Steak was a steakhouse chain, founded in 1962, which opened a location in Muncie on McGalliard in 1975. The restaurant offered a sirloin dinner, including potato, salad, and bread for $2.99, and were known for giving a fine dining experience for a lower price.

While they didn’t serve alcoholic beverages, they were well reviewed, and gave back to community, such as hosting a christmas party for impoverished kids instead of an employee christmas party, and supporting Toys for Tots. Mr Steak was purchased by former manager Jim Mochal in 1990, and renamed it JR Brooks due to Mr. Steak’s declining image. JR Brooks closed in 2003 and is the current site of newly-closed Johnny Carino’s.  The Mr. Steak chain survived until at least 2005, with its final location in Missouri just west of St. Louis.
