HiFi Buys Electronics Store

HiFi Buys Electronics Store

Hifi Buys was an electronics store, specializing in audio products like stereos, turntables, speakers, and more. The company was started in 1973 in Georgia, and opened in Muncie mid-1975, and was located in Northwest Plaza. The chain reached 11 stores at its peak, and was named among the top 10 audio retailers in the country in 1978.

Hifi Buys’ parent company was purchased by Luskins Inc., an appliance retailer, in 1985. The Muncie Hifi Buys location closed in 1988, nine days after a help wanted ad that described the brand as “growing.” Luskins Inc. rebranded four of its acquisitions to the Luskins name as appliance showrooms, but it was determined that the Muncie showroom could not accommodate that. There is still one Hifi Buys location in Georgia, after a local audio store rebranded and revived the name in 2015.
