Ski-Hi Drive-In Theater

Ski-Hi Drive-In Theater

Ski-Hi was Muncie’s last remaining Drive-in theater. It opened in 1950, at the intersection of State Roads 3 and 28. The theater offered in-car speakers, refreshments, and showed two shows per night. The first movie shown was a 1950 western called “Barricade.” Ski-Hi frequently cycled the movies offered, often only showing a title for three or four days.

The theater occasionally offered live performances, and closed for the season every winter. Ski-Hi remained popular, alongside the Muncie Drive-in, through the 80s, but business slowed throughout the 90s and 2000s. They closed for good in the mid-2000s, and despite a spark of hope after being purchased in 2011, was demolished in 2016. The corner currently sits empty.
