Skate Away Roller Skating Rink

Skate Away Roller Skating Rink

Skate Away was a big name in Muncie’s roller skating past, and was a favorite outing for many Muncie families. It opened in late 1977 on McGalliard, near the bypass. Skate away was a popular location for parties, such as parties hosted by the 4-H Junior leaders and the Northside High marching band.

Skate Away offered skates for purchase, and also hosted many skate-a-thons and dance contests, often for charity. They had a longtime DJ, who played popular music of the time, from disco to hip hop. The rink was sold in 1991 and closed, and the site is currently occupied by Smoot Landscaping.
