J.R. Brooks Restaurant

J.R. Brooks Restaurant

JR Brooks was a Muncie steakhouse owned by Jim Mochal, which opened around 1992, after Mochal purchased Muncie’s Mr. Steak location and renamed it. They were noted for serving great steak, as well as for their rice and seafood.

JR Brooks won the Star Press’s Best Service and Favorite Restaurant in their “Muncie Area’s Finest” poll. The restaurant offered a fine dining experience, as well as a conference room. They went smoke free mid-2002, leading to a significant hit in sales, causing Mochal to sell the property to Johnny Carinos, who built their restaurant on the lot. Johnny Carino’s still occupies the lot, though the restaurant recently shut its doors.
