House of Yu Restaurant

House of Yu Restaurant

The House of Yu was a Chinese restaurant and buffet opened in 1989. It was opened by a Taiwanese restaurateur, who also owned a House of Yu location in Columbus, Indiana. They specialized in Cantonese, Mandarin, and Szechuan cooking, and offered fine dining dishes and a buffet.

House of Yu hosted greek life events frequently, and was the meeting place for organizations like the Soroptimist International of Muncie chapter. Confronted with a newly crowded marketplace for Chinese food, the restaurant went into decline and ultimately closed in the early 2000s, with their last health inspection finding 65 non-critical violations, and 22 critical violations, including pest issues, meat being stored in unsafe temperatures, and no water service in the building. Yikes!  It was located in the current site of Advanced Family Dentistry.
